Survey says.............

Our little poll indicates there's a lot more people who want a Wal-Mart than those who do not. So ok- I'm listening (er, reading) Let me hear from you if you support the Wal-Mart Super Store coming into Patterson, and why.

Faithful Wal-Mart shoppers that I've spoken to say the one on McHenry in Modesto, is clean and attractive. I want to go and check it out.

If our council can negotiate the deal to benefit the downtown, that would help.

Can the employees expect to ALL BE PATTERSON RESIDENTS? That would help.

So let's get a real conversation going on this, and let the council know what you think.

I am not a walmart shopper well not as much as target but I am truley happy that someone is making an effort to come to our town and bring in some change for the families that want and need it. While I know there may be some down sides to having a Walmart there are some great advantages to. How about competitive prices...during this time I drive all the way to Foodmax in Turlock to grocery shop because I get more for my buck...maybe savemart will bring down there prices a little knowing they have competition.

Also to me it's about customer service for those business that have been around and made me feel welcomed they will always have my support I will still go and get an oil change at Big O or buy misc items from True Values.

Also did you realize that Walmart has supported our Relay for Life and other groups in our community and they are not even here yet.

Also think about the income that will come in from other cities like Newman, Gustine and so on that do not have a walmart or other big store.

It makes me laugh that Patterson still considers themeselves a small town. We are not and from what it says in the paper they plan to expand MUCH more in the future.

Remember the saying if you build it they will come...well thats what happened you built how many homes in Patterson and the people came and with those people coming into Patterson they will have wants and needs so why not keep those wants and needs in Patterson instead of going to other cities and spending money there and supporting the growth of there city.

Just remember while there are some bads there are always goods to a situation.

Build it, but build it out by the freeway not right next to the residential neighborhoods. Not only will it attract Newman and Gustine residents, and local farmers, and Patterson residents, but out by the freeway it will attract those on long trips up and down I-5. I know, thats what I do when I travel. Out by the freeway it will also reduce the impact of possible crimes and beggars around our neighborhoods. Walmart may even kick in to improve the Sperry/I-5 interchange. Wouldn't that be a plus! The big box stores will eventually buy their way in to our town so let's controll where it will be located. Nothing says that we have to let them build it right in the middle of peaceful neighborhoods bringing all the traffic and congestion with it. How about on highway 33 south of town? But near I-5 would be best.

I am wondering where is the small town I came to love. Sure I have to drive to Modesto to shop, but that was the sacrifice I gave to raise my children in a small town. Isn't that why many bay area families come out here to raise their children in a small town to get away from gangs and big city problems. Now we are moving and growing to be a big city. What am I leaving to my children. Will they have to find their own small town. So sad because i know many generation in Patterson have stayed and left a small town to there children. I won't have that opportunity. I hate that i am part of a small group of the people who do not like how this town is growing. To many people who want growth because they do not was to sacrifice for the better.
As for Walmart it is the beginning of the end of our small town life.
